activate? do you have an NIC installed? have you assigned an IP, are the other nodes in the network set up? have you started your eth0 interface? do you have the right cables?

please give as much info as possible when asking questions

/sbin/ifconfig eth0 up
if it was configured and drivers were installed properly,
if you have a RH descendent distro run
netconfig as root
