ncftpput refused

i'm trying to ncftpput to a remote host but was rejected.
(error msg: connection refused by remote host.)
i believe its because the remote host has only the ssh port open, and by default ncftp is using port 21,am i right?
btw, i can't change the firewall settings of the remote host.
i actually tried to use the -P 115(sftp) and -P 22(ssh) option, not working tho' , is there another possible solution to this?
how about scp? i heard a bit about this being suggested in other threads. can scp run on (cron) script? i dont want to be prompted for passwd on every connection.

Connection refused could be 3 things.
1) Remote host wont let anyone connect to that port
2) No FTP daemon running!
3) Host is down.

Whether the 21 port is firewalled or not, connection to that port
wont work unless there is something to receive the connection.

hmm, u got a point there. i think there's no ftp in the remote.
thanks fer pointing it out.
anyways,
sftp don't count as using ftp daemon, is it?
