Question MySql

Hello. First of all I have to tell you this is a first time in my live installing MySql so Im pretty dumb in it. But If you could give me and advise. I installed MySql in following steps. First downloaded rpm MySQL-3.23.49a-1 and installed it. After that I created a user mysql. Than I created a folder in /home/msql scrpits. Than I did
/home/msql/scripts/mysql_install_db and it went just fine...thats the message that come after it :

-"
[mysql@localdomain scripts]$ mysql_install_db
Installing all prepared tables
020412 13:16:48 /usr/sbin/mysqld: Shutdown Complete

To start mysqld at boot time you have to copy support-files/mysql.server
to the right place for your system

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SET A PASSWORD FOR THE MySQL root USER !
This is done with:
/usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root -p password 'new-password'
/usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h localdomain.localdomain -p password 'new-password'
See the manual for more instructions.

NOTE: If you are upgrading from a MySQL <= 3.22.10 you should run
the /usr/bin/mysql_fix_privilege_tables. Otherwise you will not be
able to use the new GRANT command!

You can start the MySQL daemon with:
cd / ; /usr/bin/safe_mysqld &

You can test the MySQL daemon with the benchmarks in the 'sql-bench' directory:
cd sql-bench ; run-all-tests

Please report any problems with the /usr/bin/mysqlbug script!

The latest information about MySQL is available on the web at
http://www.mysql.com
Support MySQL by buying support/licenses at https://order.mysql.com
end"

Now I heard that there is a sample database called test internal database. When I typed in mysql I'm getting following message:[root@localdomain /]# mysql
bash: /usr/bin/mysql: No such file or directory

There is no such a thing in /usr/local/mysql .....

I dont know what is wrong with it. Please help me out/

Jakub.

I did chkconfig --list and mysql is listed there and seemd to be on:mysql 0ff 1ff 2n 3n 4n 5n 6ff

THank you.

type ' locate mysql | more' and see where the binaries are stored then you can set path to that particular dir where mysql has been copied

Hi,

my binary is /usr/bin/mysql..

If you recently installed it run the following..

/etc/cron.daily/slocate.cron

then run

locate mysql | look for a single mysql

Hello. I come back adter weekend and typed in mysql command amd recived following message : [root@localdomain /]# mysql
bash: mysql: command not found.
I installed it from 14 mb rpm file name...MySQL-3.23.49a-1.i386.rpm . When I do chkconfig --list I see mysql is on..mysql 0ff 1ff 2n 3n 4n 5n 6ff .
Now Im really suprised because I just typed in rpm -aq |grep mysql and did not recived any reply. I don't know what to do now.
