Must I always mount using samba?

It seems as if every time I turn off my computer or restart I have to enter the command to network my XP computer and my Madrake 10 computer. I probably missed a step or something. Is there an easier way to do this? Sorry..this is probably a really lame question.

you cant mount share automatically in the file /etc/fstab. The file system type will be smbfs.

You want to put an entry for it in /etc/fstab. For example:
//server1/public /mnt/smb smbfs defaults,credentials=/etc/samba/pub.cred 0 0

The credentials file, /etc/samba/pub.cred in this example, is readable only by root and contains any username and password required to access the share:

username=joe
password=<joe's password>

this will ensure that your samba share mounts automatically to /mnt/smb upon system boot.
