Multiple ethernet cards, same driver - problem

OS: Redhat 7.1
I am a newbie to Linux & am trying to get my system to work (separately) with both ethernet cards.
I have two Ethernet cards - a Digital & Linksys(etherfast 10/100), only one is recognized(eth0-DEC). Apparently, both of them (I think) use the same driver tulip.0.

I added in my /etc/modules.conf -alias eth1 tulip .. - didn't work.
Also, in my /etc/lilo.conf, added append="ether=0,0,eth1". Hasnt worked ..
ifconfig -a never shows eth1, though modprobe eth1 doesnt show any error. If i plug in my cable modem connection to eth1, the lights seems to be glowing .. ( doesnt this mean the hardware is working properly ??) the netcfg utility doesnt show eth1 though.

Also, cat /proc/pci doesnt say anything about the Linksys card.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get eth1 (Linksys card LNE 100TX Ver 5)also working ? Any help is this regard is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

have you checked out the ethernet howto on getting two cards to work at http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Ethern...O-2.html#ss2.3 ?? might check that out and try a few things it suggests there. report here if that doesn't work or problems occur.
