multi OS Domain

First, this is my first post here. I am a borderline newbie and/or novice to linux. I am trying to accomplish something that I have not had much luck in finding. This is a home network that I am working on. I am adept in the Windows environment and trying to broaden my horizons some. My environment is this, one server RH4, two windows xp desktops, and two fedora 5 desktops. My ultimate goal is to have the network function just like a windows domain. I do understand that samba can act like a domain controller, not so much a problem. What I am having a problem with is getting all the systems to mesh together seamlessly. I want my RH4 server to validate all login accounts(windows and fedora machines), run login scripts to only two drives, the users home directory and a public drive. Using samba with the windows machines I have partially got to work, but the fedora 5 machines seem like they could care less if there is a domain controller in existance. How can I get all these machines on the same page? I want the server to validate the windows machines, and the fedora machines, and run the login scripts to map the appropriate drives seamlessly just like windows does. Where can I find a tutorial or info that can lead me in the right direction to accomplish my goal? I also understand that I will probably have to have multiple configs, but I just do not know what to do after the samba part. The fedora machines really seem to be the problem, because they dont care about domain controllers and scripts called from the domain controller. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Before you dive in too far, have a look at the samba-tng project.

This is a rewrite of the samba code to focus primarily on being a PDC. Your questions are answered in their faqs.

I read those FAQ from top to bottom & I don't see anything about configuring Linux desktops to interface w/ a Samba DC.

It seems to me that if the "Winders" boxen are acting as desired/expected, then the RH4 box is doing its job as a DC & the problem is in FC desktops -- probably in their smb.conf [global]
section.

I wish I knew more about this side of Samba & could give a definitive answer off the top of my head.
