Move files from vsftpd to Windows Share

Hi

I've set up a small network that has vsftpd server running allowing anonymous only connections/Drop box so uploaders can't see the contents. THis works great but I need an automatic way to now get the files from the vsftp box onto a windows share. What is the best way of tackling this?

The process needs to be automatic. Basically I need the files (once upload is complete) to be moved onto a Windows Share.

Would this be a case of mounting the windows share on the linux box and automate using a mv command perhaps

Re: Move files from vsftpd to Windows Share

There are a number of ways you can accomplish this, but yes, for the most part they all involve mounting the Windows share on the Linux machine.

The easiest way to do it would be to have cron run a script every five minutes or so [depending on how often you need the files copied] that will sync the two directories. I suggest using rsync. If you want more details on this setup, just say so.

A much more difficult way to do it, though a way that would be immediate, would be to write a script that uses FAM [the file alteration monitor] to tell it when files get created and so forth. The script can then copy the files. This would be a very involved process, but if you go in and do it, it can be very rewarding.

As with most things, there are dozens of ways of doing it. If you think of something, you can probably do it in Linux. Just ask, we're here to help.
