That was the equation (the part that I could not see).

With todays fines(wasn't the last one $300K) on downloads and stuff I am not willing to share my connection with anybody. Of course if somebody else was willing to put their name on the account (and not mine), that would be a totally different story.

My linksys routers will work as simple dumb switches. You would be amazed at what you find a garage sales for $3 (without power supply). But the $35 for the netgear gs105 (GigE 5 port switch) was worth every penny (wished I would have gotten a year earlier). Newegg has cat 6 for cheap and it is good stuff too.
