martian source

Hello.

Recently I got the following problem with network.

Periodically with frequency about 1 or 2 minutes it disappears for about 30 seconds, and /var/log/messages are feed during this by repeating entries:

--------------
Mar 23 13:58:51 scuko kernel: martian source 158.194.88.255 from 158.194.88.208, on dev eth0
Mar 23 13:58:51 scuko kernel: ll header: ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:00:16:e6:85:12:a5:08:00
--------------

I use SuSE 10.2, uname:
2.6.18.8-0.1-default #1 SMP Fri Mar 2 13:51:59 UTC 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Network setting is static IP.

Normally, our network gives the addresses via DHCP, but earlier (especially - before upgrade to SuSE 10.2) static assignment worked. It is rather desirable to keep the address static since it is used for server purposes, but whether it is indeed the reason?

Well if the question is why this messages appears, I can tell you that this message means that there is an ip address which does not belong to your normal ip range.

If the question is if this is only a "feature" of 10.2 the answere is "no".
