Mandrake 9.2 Driver
Ok, when I loaded Mandrake 9.2 the only thing that I think did not plug and play was my NIC. When booting the system in verbose mode, there isn't even anything saying "starting eth0" or anything like that. Here are the steps I have taken so far to fix this:
1. I go to Network & Internet Configuration and launch the configuration wizard (I tried autodetect and expert mode). Once done "detecting devices" it bounces back with, "No ethernet adapter has been detected on your system. I cannot set up this connection type."
2. I go to harddrake and under Ethernecard: it says "Nforce2 MCP Networking Adapter". Is this just saying that Linux knows what it is, but it still needs a driver?
3. I copy the Linux folder under the NIC drivers on my motherboard CD to my hard drive and go to the terminal. Once I CD over to the proper directory, I typed: tar -xvzf 3c90x-102.tar.gz as instructed by the readme file with the tar.gz file. After untaring, it gives me six files: readme, install 3c90x, compile_up, compile_smp, 3c90x.h, and 3c90.c.
4. The readme file tells me to put "alias eth0 3c90x" in /etc/modules.conf (done with no problems).
5. The second thing it says to do is CD to the proper directory and type ./compile_UP(i have single processor). All I get is "command not found".
6. I then realized I didn't have gcc installed, so I went to rpmdrake and installed everything gcc.
7. Still I get errors and stuff when I try to ./compile_UP. I have tried everything. Is this just not going to work with Mandrake 9.2?
