Mandrake 9.1 + onboard lan

I have a Gigabyte motherboard (ga-8simlh) that has onboard lan (either rtl8100bl or rtl8101l, not sure which). I installed Mandrake 9.1. Everything works fine, except my ethernet interface. The port has a link, but whether i use dhcp or assign an ip address, I can't get a ping to work.
Any suggestions???

Mandrake's site lists it as Known Hardware - someone has it working fine. Have you looked in the Bios to see if you can disable plug'n'play? This alone can really knacker things up with hardware, especially onboard stuff.

I've had a look through bios, can't find any mention of plug-n-play.

i have noticed something bizarre though. From the realtek site, I downloaded a dos config utility, that lists the irq of the lan interface as 11, yet under linux, the ifconfig eth0 command reports it as 17
