Lynksys router, no DHCP. Have to use IP manualy, some one give me low down.

Ok, I just bought my self a Lynksys Wireless G router. And I need it for my lan party, and for an other thing, but thats not important. Anyways, I thought I could use the 4 ports it had, on the back, to connect the computers, that I need to link up. To my knoledge, what I got from a in store techi guy, that this router had DHCP. I know what that is, and he even clarified that that was what I was looking for, a router/switch thatll dynamicly give IP's to every computer hooked up to it. (probably not the wireless) Anyways, when I just tried it out (a few minutes ago) the lights on the router lite up. Now when I went to go try a network game out (Warcraft3, Counter-Strike) I couldnt see a game I would make on either computer. (2 of them, testing out just in case for a situation like this) SOO this brings me to believe that the DHCP that it was supposed to have failed, or worse just doesnt have one. (if all routers have it, then Ill have learned something new, I dont know too much in this area) So can someone tell me if I didnt do something that I was supposed to do? If I NEED to put in the ip's manualy, well, then can someone tell me how to do it. PLZ! PLZ! Tell me like u were telling a newbie how to use a mouse, because just saying "134.44.23.1 and ur done" is not going to get me anywear. Also, I would like to know if its EVEN possible to link up Linux and a WINDOWS machine together. THANX! NOTE: I need the information before july 9 (friday) because I need to have everything setup and ready to go, before the party starts.
