lots of packet collisions causing slow network
I'm having big problems with my server (plenty fast). It is connected directly to my Linksys wifi (G) router via ethernet cable. The other computers on the network are wireless. I've been having a lot of trouble transferring files from one computer to the other, but especially with transferring a file from the server to a wireless computer. All of the computers are running linux.
Anyway, I've been tinkering with this for quite some time (thought samba was the problem), but I just realized... a ifconfig eth0 shows:
Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 52:54:05:F4:41:CC
inet addr:192.168.1.101 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:3223957 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:1
TX packets:2157925 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:496889 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:555551982 (529.8 Mb) TX bytes:181087269 (172.6 Mb)
Interrupt:10 Base address:0xec00
Look at the collisions! What can cause this?? I now suspect that this is the culprit of my slow network problems. I JUST bought a new router. Could it be a bad cable?? FTP is a little faster than samba, but still nothing like it should be. Maybe 1 MB/sec.
Thanks in advance.
