Symptom: Logging into KDE desktop is incredibly slow (sometimes taking up to 15 minutes)
Configuration: Authentication is with ldap. Pointing to 2 name servers, has multiple network connections with all static addresses. Is a dhcp and dns server. The OS is Red Hat Enterprise 5.
The message log has errors but I don't know what they mean. Something to do with not knowing the host name?
I don't think authentication is the problem because the login prompt goes away quickly but the kde takes forever.
What should I be looking at?
I would start by checking the ldap authentication.
How quickly does root login? Root is locally authenticated, so if it's an ldap problem, it will be much faster.

Can you post the error log messages and LDAP client configuration?
