Linux lost ADSL connection thru eth0!

I am using Mandrake 9.0, and everything worked fine until one day, when it said at bootup " eth0 'failed' ".
My service provider uses moving IP addresses, that change once in month. I tried to run ifup, web connection wizard, kudzu and several other applications, but none of them couldn't detect the new IP address. Then I contacted my connection provider, and they told the correct IP's, but warned that Linux system may not still work, as I don't have internal ADSL card, and it didn't.
Now I'm pretty much lost, as I really don't want to install linux again.
I'm using 3com ethernet card.

what does you /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file say? a typical adsl client one should basically be something like
Code:
DEVICE="eth0"
ONBOOT="yes"
BOOTPROTO="dhcp"
That's ALL that mine says....

In Japan , when I connect adsl , It seems to become the following.

DEVICE="eth0"
ONBOOT="no"
BOOTPROTO="dhcp"

#/usr/sbin/adsl-start

I think you can get a new IP addr.

Sorry,I am not too good at English

Bye

Bootproto type is depended on what type of your ISP uses. One would be dhcp and the other would be pppoe.
If you use adsl-start to connect to ISP, that is from pppoe.
If you don't use any thing but start PC up, that means you use DHCP which requires your eth0 or eth1 should be up.
Hope this helps

Lintadsl.
I am from South Korea ^_^.

How does your ADSL connect to your ethernet card? via bridge (modem) or router?

What was required to get it working in the first place?

Do you have any OS to try, so you can try and see what happens with that?

Thumbs up

ifup eth0 showed green light today, here's what I did:
- ifup eth0, failed
- checked ifcfg-eth0 and deleted line wich contained netmask.
- checked drakconnect_conf and deleted netmask.
- went to control center and at firewall, disabled some IP and DNS shuffles.
- shutted down ADSL device, removed cord, power back again, cord in.
- (now comes the best part) ifup eth0... done.

Yay!
