My main reason for asking is that I have recently set up a Linux box at work. This is not particularly acceptable at our site. I recently discovered that our Windows admin has set up Surf Patrl to log all the Linux sites I look at!

What I'd like to do is ensure that I can visit the sites I want without this monitoring. The way I see it, I could set up something like VNC to my home computer, and do all the browsing from there. There'll be the small details (gulp!) of configuring firewalls, but hey I'll get on to that!

Does my idea sound feasible? Is there a better way of doing it?

If you can ssh to your home machine from work. You can setup apache as a proxy server and create an ssh tunnel to it.
First can ssh to you machine from work?

tnx g-rod, I'll try setting up ssh first. I have an IP address from my ISP so I'll need to set port forwarding on my modem I suppose.

OK, I can now ssh to home from work. I found some more info regarding using squid, to act as a proxy. Squid is installed by default. Would you recommend Apache over squid? If not I'll follow the info for squid set up. I'll hopefully get an hour to try it tonight.

No I would not recommend one over the other. Good luck.
