Does anyone know where I can get drivers for the linksys wusb11 access point. It is a usb wireless access point. I have been trying to get it to work, but I am just not able too.
USB is not an inherently bad topology/protocol. USB 2.x is even better. High-speed serial interfaces will most likely replace the stock parallel busses of today, so get used to it. The only problem with the USB adapter mentioned here is that it's two ilks of kinda-supported Linux features: wireless *and* USB. And no driver, to boot. This is, I humbly submit, Linux's "fault," and not that of the topology. Mind you: not saying that Linux is at fault for not instantly supporting zillions of cards when the manufacturers can't be bothered (and, occasionally, are actively unhappy when people reverse-engineer their product), but I am most certainly saying that it ain't USB's fault.
Check the linksys website - they have a wusb11 linux driver posted there. I haven't gotten it to work yet, possibly because it's not for the 2.5 version of the wusb11 (which is what I'm trying to use).
This is a Prism2 Intersil chipset USB client. The terminology gets kinda hedgy here. The WUSB11 is a client, whereas an access point is the machine controlling the connection, i.e. the wireless router.
I had to look up the WUSB11 to make sure I was right, had me confused there for a moment.
There are currently 3 projects working on support for the Prism2 chipset. Unfortunately only one has bothered with the USB drivers, but as far as I've read they work well, although require a little hand management in order to set-up. This stuff is very new, so you're lucky its supported at all.
Here's the download site for the Linux-wlan projects work. You're going to need a working compiler to build it, and also you'll need to grab version 11, labelled USB-only.
