Has anyone been able to kickstart fedora with a floppy? I was able to do it with Redhat 7.3 with the bootnet.img file. This image no longer exists on the fedora cd though. I can get it to kickstart with the cdrom, but when I use 'ks' as the boot option (from the boot image bootdisk.img) it just bypasses the kickstart and begins a normal install.
Is there any kind of magical change I need to make to the bootdisk.img inorder to get this working?
yeah i had some problems with fedora as well, stupid thing. Not to mention NO SUPPORT gee why do people love redhat so much it really gives me the shits. And looks crap and gets really shit reviews so it is not just me.
But anyway i found mandrake 10 times more helpfull in stuff like that so i switched my research to be based on mandrake, ehh they are all the same thing anyway.
Mandrakes autoinstall has heaps of docs and is more powerfull then redhats kickstart, suse is also another option but not as easy to get as mandrake.
Fedora was toally awesome, when I had it installed. 10x better than Mandrake... Mandrake has gotten worse with each new version... I had installed Mandrake9 and it would not install any RPM's, Fedora is way better for it only being version1
boso linux_newbie07 we are talking about a kickstart installation. Not some try hard installing it on there windows pc for fun. If Mandrake did not install any RPM's then you have a dead cd, this is not Mandrake's fault that you do not know how to burn a cd.
Maybe you should ask a friend to hold you hand next time you install Mandrake.
Ge sorry dud, didn't mean to sound so harsh i just get irritated when redhat users accuse Mandrake of being crap when most of the time they have never even used it. Which is what i concluded from you comment when you said quote "it would not install any RPM's".
But in general for a desktop user at home Mandrake and Suse are the best distribution. Anyone who says anything thing else is either using redhat for a server and finds it easier. Or is just plane in love with redhat and will not except that there are other distributions which are probably more ideal.
I am not saying it's the best distribution for everything, redhat and suse are probably the best choice for servers. But Mandrake is probably the best choice for home users. And also what i have found, it is better for autoconfiguring with kickstart.
But if you do not believe me buy a copy of Linux Magazine issue #39, February 2004 Cover theme: Full Distro Test. This has an absolutely grate comparisons between them all, and you can make you own choices as when it comes down to it, they are all the same just having a different look and feel.
