Issue while creating mount using cifs

I am trying to create a mount in linux.

First I created a directory for mount point. Then I run the below command:

mount.cifs //remotewindowsserver/sharename /linuxmountpoint –o username=sys_nc1, dom=amr”

Upon entering the password, there is no error message.

But when I do CD to mount point directory, it says "no such file or directory".

If i unmount, then I can do CD to mount point directory.

I am not sure why the mount point directory doesn't work when I create a mount ?

Look at the /linuxmountpoint using ls -d and ls. It doesn't make sense to me that the directory itself doesn't exist. It sounds like you are in the wrong directory and your path was wrong. Are the names in your post imaginary? For example if you had mounted over $HOME/dir, the subdirectory that was in $HOME/dir/dir2 will be covered over when mounting on top of $HOME/dir/.

run "smbclient -L <hostname>" and see if the domain, host and share information is printed.

Check your firewall settings. Do you allow samba browsing?

What is the OS of the Windows server? At work, I didn't have shares offered by my decoder showing up on the server. I had wanted to save certain files saved back for backing up to dvd. I had to change the encryption settings on the Windows 7 decoder.

Since you are using a domain, is the linux computer a member of the domain?
