Is there a way to force 4g dongle to still use ipv4 when it is defaulting to only issuing ipv6 address?

For compatibility reasons is it possible to force it to give an ipv4 address?

I looked in mmcli and it shows capability for ipv4v6 also both on their own however only inet6 shows when doing "ip addr show".

I know it is an issue with the dongle and not the provider because using the same sim on my older 2/3g only dongle it gives and ipv4. This one is 3/4g LTE.

So since it seems not related to a hard rule by the provider itself can the device be told somehow to use ipv4?

Hi, I don't know how to address the dongle directly, but you may setup the system to use ipv4 only.

edit /etc/sysctl.conf
Code:
net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.tun0.disable_ipv6 = 1
Another step you may take is to add the kernel command to the boot line for grub.

You can test this first but using the 'e'e key when grub boots to edit the command before the system starts...

ipv6.disable=1

If that works to your liking you can add it to /etc/default/grub (on my Devuan, Debian based system)

/etc/default/grub
Code:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="console=tty12 vga=794 modeset.nouveau=0 nokmsboot ipv6.disable=1 amd_iommu=on"
then as root run update-grub to make it stick for each re-boot.
