Is there a way to connect a pc to linux through just a workgroup and not a domain?


Is it possible to get my Linux box to show up on a simple workgroup, instead of a domain? If so is it also possible to do it without samba? im using 2 pcs with windows xp and one linux box running the best linux. Any help would be great...thanks

You will need Samba to share with the Win boxen, but if you mean domain in the "Windows NT Domain" sense, no, I don't think you necessarily have to do that. You can configure Samba to be part of a workgroup.

There's a lot of information out there dealing with Samba configuration, and a lot of it conflicts with other info you might find. Here are a few links to get you going:
