IPtables help with VPN Setup...

Over the last week I've been trying to enable basic port forwarding to the remote management port on my router (DDWRT) running OpenVPN. However after looking for support with my VPN provider staff they have now made a final decision.

"This is an internal DD-WRT problem and I am unable to find a solution for now, sorry. "

I was directed to setup IPtables which did not help..
I will include the commands and direction which I was directed to correct the issue which did not turn out to be helpful.. thank for help in advance.

[15:05] ray: Looking to manage router from external location as I have before - After Installing the VPN I'm not able to login to the router
[15:06] ray: I was told that the VPN provider needs to setup port forwarding for me
[15:42] David Maire (Hosting & VPN Support): one moment
[15:08] ray: ok
[15:42] David Maire (Hosting & VPN Support): what service needs to be forwarded, to what device
[15:08] ray: Not really a service
[15:08] ray: Router has management port
[15:08] ray: 8181
[15:42] David Maire (Hosting & VPN Support): http managment?
[15:09] ray: yes
[15:09] ray: I also use https on port 8181
[15:09] ray: is that a problem
[15:09] ray: ? if so I can use basic Http
[15:42] David Maire (Hosting & VPN Support): go to Administration > Commands
[15:42] David Maire (Hosting & VPN Support): enter the following command
[15:42] David Maire (Hosting & VPN Support): iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i tun0 -p tcp --dport 8181 -j DNAT --to-destination 127.0.0.1
[15:42] David Maire (Hosting & VPN Support): click 'run command'

[15:11] ray: done
[15:11] ray: can u check for me or should i ?
[15:42] David Maire (Hosting & VPN Support): what's the VPN IP?
[15:12] ray: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
[15:42] David Maire (Hosting & VPN Support): so the URL is https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8181 ?

[15:42] David Maire (Hosting & VPN Support): Can I connect to your computer using remote desktop to diagnose the problem directly?
[15:13] ray: sure with what service?
[15:42] David Maire (Hosting & VPN Support): give me a moment for this
[15:23] ray: no problem
[15:42] David Maire (Hosting & VPN Support): please re-run teamviewer, provide new passcode
[15:38] ray: ok
[15:42] David Maire (Hosting & VPN Support): this is a unique problem as the normal nat commands do not seem to apply, ddwrt has additional access control settings for local services i believe, you would be better off making a ticket so i can investigate longer
[15:42] David Maire (Hosting & VPN Support): i will create a ticket for your problem, one moment

Maybe your ISP is blocking inbound connection to services.

Dd-wrt

Just curious. What is the device one hop out from your wireless router? I haven't used DD-WRT, but it should be trivial for them to forward SSL traffic on 8181 and/or 443 for web management and SSL VPN services to the router.
