Question IP Farwading


I am working with Linux 7.3. I have two interface. eth0 is my external interface with ip x.x.x10 and my internal ip is on eth1 and it is y.y.y.1. I first to enable ip farwading and then port farwading. I have tried the following command
ech 0 >/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_farwarding
but i cant ping x.x.x.10 from my internal interface
Can any one help me iam new in linux

well it's not exactly suprising that that did not work seeing as the actual command is:

/sbin/ipchains -A forward -i eth0 -j MASQ
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
the iptables command is sctually a bit old now, but i can't remember the newer iptables equivalent.
