ip adressing

Hi i just have a quick question . First il describe you my setup .

linksys router on a PPPoE dsl line 340 dl 70 upl

server 1 on suse 9.0 apache mysql etc

server 2 on win 98 running abyss web server

plus 2 laptops that connects in and out in the local network

Now my problem is that i have dhcp enable and my ip for my server 1 and server 2 changes almost evrey 2 days and its starting to be a paint in the ass because when i am away i have to log in remotely and change the ip in the ip fowarding table in the router.

im thinking to go with static ip instead but im not sure how to set it up on suse linux 9.0 can somehone help me or give me a example how to set it up " commands etc "

Thanks

//Mod note: Doesn't appear to have anything to do with Linux in an enterprise business; moving to networking.

Geeee!! I dont remember !! There was a configuration utility... HA! There is is: yast.

From there you will be able to change your ip from dynamic to static..

Dont forget DNS though...

But still.... It's weird because DHCP server usualy match there leases with the MAC adress of Network cards. So if you dont change you network card, the adress wont change, for ever (normaly)... There might be some configuration about that in you router ???

Another solution to consider it to stop offering DHCP from you router and start offering DHCP service from you Linux. Like this I can certify that once you get a dynamic adress, it will remain the same for the life of you NIC..

Good luck!
