Ok, I am running SuSE 10, its been working great so far... till now.

I got home from work, and my keyboard had somehow turned off... I'm assuming it had something to do with the VNC connection I made to the system from work. Well rebooted my linux box and I have no internet now.

I am on the network. from the linux box I can access my router and I have the same rights as before on it. I've ifdown eth0 and ifup eth0 several times. even switched to the other network card on the system and cycled that. no matter what I try I'm still seeing the router, and its seeing me, and getting no internet.

I've even rebooted the router, power cycled the router, rebooted my linux box multiple times... I don't want to have to re-install linux. any ideas would be great.

Ok, after browsing forums for the last 2 and a half hours I came upon the answer... and I kinda feel retarded about it. But for anyone runing SuSE 10 out there and this happens to you.

Check the /etc/resolv.conf file.

I had to add the line "nameserver 192.168.0.2" which is my router's address, as soon as I did that I ran an ifdown/ifup (not sure if I needed to) but did anyway, then loaded up firefox and google looked me in the face... great now that that's done I get to go clean dishes... wonderful rewards...
