internet connection probs

Hi,

i am a newbie to linux and i am having problems setting up my VDSL (Ethernet Connection) now the proble is that it cannot activate the device (eth0).

now i have been speaking to people and they seem to not have a clue.

But i was reading in help prog and i saw a Warning "Do not delete localhost" which i have done....

So i was woundering how i would get that back without re-installing, OR if that is even the problem?

thnk heaps in advance!

P.S.
i am using RedHat 7.3 and the Ethernet card is netgeat FA 311

You mean that you deleted localhost? Or that you heeded that warning?

Take a look at the file ``/etc/hosts''. It should contain the line:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

If it doesn't put it back in. Then restart the network service by issuing: ``/etc/rc.d.init.d/network restart''.

Can't help about the other problem and I sort of doubt that it's related to the missing localhost.
