I am trying to get 2 NICS running on the same machine. Linux detects both of them seperatly, but together it only detects 1 of them.
Is there something in recompiling the kernel that I missed?
How do you you manually install a NIC if it isn't detected as eth1?
Are they the same kind?
I usually will use two different brands just so I can tell them apart, not that this should matter that much because of the mac address. Unless somehow Linux thinks both cards have the address?
well we can't say if they will autodetect, as you didn't even say what distro you are using. most newbieish distros like mandrake or suse will most likely configure it fine. if not, manually installing them is quite straight forward. but then you also didn't tell us what the chipsets were.... please try to provide more information in future, thanks.
Please tell us what Distro you are using.
Like Chris said it should configure on it's own.
Although I had a laptop with a Xircom 10/100 56 k global card and it NEVER worked.
I might also suggest that you test the cards out using another box simply to eliminate the possibility of one of them being bad.
I have had memory do this to me before.
Ok both cards are 3Com, they both work, recently tested. The distro I am using is Openna. I just recompiled the kernel as monolithic with the 3com drivers in it. I made an ifcfg-eth1 file for the card it didn't recognize. I think it may be working now, could someone please tell me if there is some files I missed that I need to configure.
Thanks.
I think you need to add the file in the /etc/modules.conf of your machine. From wut i know,it like the driver file. I did it by disabling 1 of my NIC's 1st,then copying the content of the modules.conf in my /etc directory. Then, after restarting and enabling the other one,i copied the file to the modules.conf, then made a ifcfg-eth1 in the sysconfig directory.
