I'm attempting to install an Accton en1207d nic in RH7.1 as a loadable module. I used the drivers suggested in the Ethernet HOWTO... de4x5 and tulip, but got the following errors
de4x5 init_module: Input/output error
tulip init_moudle: No such device
So I tracked down the proper driver ..en1207d, but got the following errors
unresolved symbol mod_use_count_
unresolved symbol kfree_R801a0af7
" " add_timer_Rf13cb728
etc
etc
etc
The command I'm using is "insmod drivername"
First try modprobe'ing the modules
i.e.
/sbin/modprobe tulip
and if you get the same unresolved symbols errors, most probably you'd have to recompile your kernel to include modualr support for tulip driver, and en1207d driver.
P.S. What modprobe does - it loads the module and any dependent modules it needs rather than just loading that individual module with insmod.
I also have Slack 8.0 installed on this PC so I booted into it and ran "insmod en1207d.o" and got a message back that the module was compiled for an earlier kernel and that I had to recompile it for my current kernel.
I have a en1207d.c file, is this what I have to compile and if so how do I go about it. Wowhhh....I love this stuff!!
Didn't work. I'm reading the gcc HOWTO at the moment to get a better understanding of what I'm trying to do.
I've learned alot already though since I've had this problem, which is I guess what it's all about. I'ts the only wat to learn Linux.....get your hands dirty.
