Question initializing squid and dns??

hello nubie here,

am trying to setup a DNS/nat and squid proxy server. i have succeesfully done DHCP server with it but on the client machine it gives me this line

root@loxie debloxie]# /sbin/ifup eth0
Determining IP information for eth0....done
/sbin/ifup: line 359: [ : : integer expression expected
[root@loxie debloxie]#

it gives the IP all the same but i dont know what the statement is for?

secondly i got bind to work, but i can do host, dig and traceroute commands for various sites but when i do host for my DHCP server wch should double as the clients DNSserver, it says

[root@loxie debloxie]# host 192.116.66.220
;;connection timed out; no servers could be reached.

but i was able to get do host for the various websites?

The last is that after setting squid i mistakenly tried to initialize as root instead of the default squid and it gave me an error like

Initializing the Squid cache with the command squid -f /etc/squid/squid.conf -z ..

2004/01/17 10:25:06| Squid is not safe to run as root! If you must

it said that i should try to run as a non-priviledged user.

go to your squid conf file
depending on which version your running could be in
/usr/local/squid/etc/squid.conf

change the username and group to squiduser:squiduser and create the user and group.

that should fix the problem..

DNS no idea
