Well I started reading this threada about 1:00pm. It's now 2:30 and I have downloaded, installed, and configured tight VNC. Sweet program.
I changed the
twm &
to
startkde &
Works like a gem.

Sorry, about the Putty thing, but glad to hear you caught your own mistake there. We all had to start somewhere with this stuff. Anyway....

Ok, what user do you normally log in as? That is who you should run the server as. It is best not to run a program like this as root, well basically it's pretty much taboo to log in as root on a normal basis.

If you want to run gnome as your desktop, I would suggest copying the contents of the file /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions/Gnome to your ~/.vnc/xstartup file.

So basically, log in as root and do this..
Make sure to kill all instances of the vncserver.
Then check to see if you have a .vnc directory under your home directory, if not create it mkdir .vnc

Make sure you actually have the file /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions/Gnome
If you do then copy it to the ~/.vnc/xstartup file.

cp /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions/Gnome ~/.vnc/xstartup

Then start the server and try to login.
