I can't install my Nvidia ethernet on RH9.0

Hi there... I have just successfully installed RedHat 9.0 on my existing WinXP Pro PC (great achievement for a Linux first-timer).

But, I cannot get my networking up, mainly because I cannot install my on-board Nvidia ethernet. I searched through the long list of network adapters in the Network Configuration settings but Nvidia is not listed.

Has anyone faced this problem, or does anyone know the solution?

Appreciate all help...

easy way: goto www.nvidia.com , download driver and install. reboot your linux. it will find the nvnet and let u configure it.

other ways:
u can choose forcedeth module instead of nvnet. actually kernel 2.6.4 and laters have this module. if u update your redhat 9.0 to fedora 2, it will automaticly dedect and configure your NIC.

u can try forcedeth src.rpm if u dont want to update your linux:
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3?stat...rh9.at.src.rpm
download it and build, install
Code:
rpmbuild --rebuild forcedeth-0.22-2.rh9.at.src.rpm
rpm -ivh /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/force*.rpm
reboot after installing, it will probably will find and configure your NIC

good luck.

Thank you for the reply.

The problem is that I cannot get my ethernet going, so the Internet is temporarily out of bounds.

Please pardon my stupidity coz I'm a total newborn when it comes to Linux.
I didn't quite understand your second part. How do I "rebuild" and "install"?

A dummy-proof step by step description is greatly greatly appreciated.

Rgds.

i already explained how to do that
Quote:
Code:
rpmbuild --rebuild forcedeth-0.22-2.rh9.at.src.rpm
rpm -ivh /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/force*.rpm
never mind. open a terminal. and type the followings:
Code:
su -
(give the root password)
wget http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3?stat...rh9.at.src.rpm
rpmbuild --rebuild forcedeth-0.22-2.rh9.at.src.rpm
rpm -ivh /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/*
after that, restart your linux.

if it fail at any step post the error message here.

good luck.
