how to simulate several http clients on 1 system ?

I am looking for a tool that can simulate multiple http clients in order to test a web server.

Following functioanlity would be great :
1. each client must first ask for index.html
2. after receiving index.htmm, it would ask another page.

What tools /scripts do you recommend ?

tnx in advance.
