How to share files(not in LAN)?

Hi, I have 2 computers, one with Redhat 9 on it and another with Windows XP. I want to transfer files from one to another, but i can't simply do that by working in LAN, because they're too far from each other.

What would be the best solution? I thought i could use samba, but someone told me you must have both computers on a LAN, and i don't have that, so what can i do? Can i do that with FTP or NFS?? If possible, what would be the best solution?

I hope someone can help me with it, thanks already!!!

Both NFS and FTP are possible, but I would certainly settle for the latter. FTP is very well supported both in Linux and in Windows, plus it is easy to set up and maintain.
