You will need to have Samba setup on your Linux machine for this to work. Here is a good article explaining how to do it...

not working on windows 98

If it is in the same lan, I can print to a windows 98 machine, using the \\machine_name\printer_share_name.

I would like to print to windows 98, addressing to it by the IP address.

So your saying you can already print from Linux to a Windows system but need to now try another printer in another network by IP?

I think this MAY work, but can you print by IP address to the other LAN? This is assuming the 2 LAN's can see each other. Otherwise, you might have to bridge the two LAN's together. Or, have that one computer VPN into the other LAN

Well in that case, I don't see why machines couldn't print to the Windows 98 box. But then again, I have never configured Windows 98 to share a printer since I haven't touched one in a long time.

Just tell your machine (linux?) to "add a new printer". From there, specify the printer by the Windows 98 IP address. The IP address would actually be the computer (Windows 98) that the printer is hooked up to.

In theory this should work. Make sure you share the printer with 'everyone' or 'guest' privileges first. If that works, then narrow it down.

And make sure you can ping the Windows 98 machine from the other LAN, just in case.
