I have installed Redhat 9 and want to make it a PDC. After configuring Redhat server a PDC will connect some Win XP clients to this PDC for authentication. I need your assistance in this regard.
You will need to edit smb.conf and set the following variables:
local master = yes
os level = 65
domain master = yes
domain logons = yes
preferred master = yes
security = user
encrypt passwords = yes
smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd
Restart samba:
service smb restart
Then you will need to create machine accounts:
useradd MYCLIENT$ -Ms /dev/null
smbpasswd -m MYCLIENT
Create some user accounts:
smbadduser root:root
smbadduser sikandar:sikandar
Use the root account to add the machine to the domain then you can login as your user.
In the smb.conf file it is mentioned that "Don't use this if you already have a window nt domain controller doing this job"
;domain master = yes
In my situation I have a NT Pdc but I want to make a test setup of RH which will have a PDC with few clients without disturbing the NT network. What should I do in this scenario?
Please also let me know that sabma stands for...........
also you need a netlogon share in your configuration somewhere. There is a free o'reilly book online "Running Samba" that has a chapter on creating a "PDC" using samba. It is a later edition of the book though. Do a google search on the text "Using Samba" and it should be one of the 1st 2 or 3 opitons. it's the whole book online.
