How to load ethx, firewall and MASQ on boot?!

Hello everyone. I would appreciate it if someone could help me out with a little issue on my Red Hat gateway.

I finally have both my NICs working properly, and I'm running rp-pppoe and ip MASQ to share my adsl line out over my lan. I also have Apache set up and config'd.

The real problem here is that every time I reboot, whether I load eth0, eth1 or both NICs at boot time, I can only ping across one of them at a time. To get around this, I kill both interfaces (if they are up) with ifconfig ethx down (where x is each NIC); I then load my internal (LAN connected) NIC first (ifconfig eth0 up), then eth1 for my pppoe connection. Then, running /etc/ip.firewall and adsl-start allows me to ping my LAN and the Internet no prob, everything works just fine.

Any idea on how to do all this at boot time, in the correct order? Or even why I'd have to go through all this?!?

Thanks for your time, any help would be highly appreciated

As to why... no idea, but the output from ifconfig right after boot might be a help. How to beat it:

/etc/rc.d/rc.local is the last file run at init. If you put in there every command you type in on the command line to start your network... it'll run them in order just fine. Its a cheap ghetto-riffic hack, but every NAT box I have uses it.

Cheers,

Finegan
