how to link to Internet by ADSL way

After I installed Zenwalk,I want to link to the Internet.But I must use ADSL way.So I downloaded ppp2.4.4 from other place and installed,successful.And I use pppoe-start to link to the Internet.It already showed: connected!But I still can not use firefox to browse the web site on the Internet.There is the same problem when I use Gentoo,so I changed to Zenwalk.But ...
And I can directly link to LAN.

Set the dns addresses supplied by your isp in /etc/resolv.conf in the form;

nameserver <ip_address>

My ISP is auto get by a default one
nameserver 202.119.230.8
nameserver 218.2.135.1.

Can you give a detailed explanation/diagram of how you connect to the Internet. Can you ping your isp by name?

I am in my collage.I can directly link in our http://www.njupt.edu.cn and the ftp://ftp.njupt.edu.cn
But if I want to link outside our college.I have to use ADSL and pay money.
When I installed Zenwalk,my IP is auto get from DHCP,I alos have the gate way:255.255.248.0
and our scholl's DNS is 202.119.230.8,which is in the file /etc/resolv.conf
