Not sure what you are asking here.

Are you trying send e-mails about syslog events?

Are you trying to e-mail specific logs?

Please try to clarify your question. Also provide more information, like what distribution you are using, what you've already tried etc...

Log file for email located in /var/log/maillog

so if you mean u want to get an email about your log every respective time, then u can make a script which will email email's log file to you and run it in crontab.

Ok, you need to have the log files for some service emailed to you "every respective time".

I'm not sure what you mean by every respective time. Every time what? The log is rotated? A new entry is made? Every hour?

Take a look at the "cron" and "logwatch" tools. cron will allow you to schedule events, and logwatch will allow you to run scripts when certain entries are found in logs.

I hope this helps.

hi I need something like that too and I just started searching but if anyone had any idea how to do it I would like to have a hand

I think what he needs is what I am looking for:
"I need a script that would go thru a set of predetermined files, check for suspicious activities (using keywords) and, if anything is found send an email to me so I can log in and check what is going on."

I believe this is what he wants. If not, I am sorry for hijacking your post

Thanks for any help!

Logwatch is probably what you want then. Check it out it's pretty good.
