how to gather data from a game server

I want to pull the raw data that most game servers send when requested. Such as the GameSpy Query. I remember using a command a while back to pull the raw data while I was making a UT Server Query. I needed to figure out what all information the server was broadcasting. I can not seem to remember how I did this now. Any help?

The command was probably tcpdump. Most people would use wireshark.

I suppose I could install WireShark locally... but what command would I need to enter to get tcpdump to pull specific data from an IP:PORT? Seems when I run tcpdump it pulls EVERYTHING on the local host.

Wireshark isn't capturing the information I am looking for. Not sure why.

Basically I want to send a command to a server that will tell the server to return information. The information I am looking for is a query that tells information about the server. Such as it's name, admin, players, their frags, time played, etc... Normally it's in a long list view separated by a / instead of a comma.

http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/Legacy:UT_Server_Query

Here is a list of commands it will return for a UT server, however I don't know the command/string I need to use to get the server to send that information.

I don't know anything about the game, but at the bottom of the page they list an example in Perl for how to retrieve info from the server. I would think you could modify the Perl script to have it query and return the data you need.
