how to detect IP conflict

hi,

i have made a small code that sends ARP packets asking the hardware address of the IP address i have specified in the packet.

My problem is that in case of IP conflict(if two PCs have same IP), what will happen? will i get two ARP packets showing the mac addr of both the PCs that have same IP or will it show the Mac addr of the most recently recieved one.
how can i finally make a program to detect IP conflict?

thanx
