Question how to create dialup connection in suse


hello to all
i installing suse 10.1 and use gnome enviroment . i install kppp for dilaup internet but this software not work .
when im start this program see this message

You don,t have sufficient permission to run
/usr/sbin/pppd
Please make sure that kppp is owned by root and has the SUID bit set

//***********

and when click on the connect button see this meesage.
can not create lock file .

please help me .

my mode, is zoltrix . please help urgently .

i need your answer urgently.

I think you need to make yourself a member of the dialout group.

You can do that in "/sbin/yast2 users".

What are the permissions of the kppp program.
The group owner may be the dailout group, and if you are a member, you can run the program.

Another possibility is that the kppp program needs to have the suid bit set, and will check if you are a member of the dialout group before allowing you to dialout. The passwd program is similar. It has the suid bit set but checks whether you are root. If not, you can only change your own password.

If setting the suid bit of the kppp program allows a regular user, who is not a member of the dialout group, dial out, then setting the suid bit is not the correct solution, ans the suid bit should not be set.
