Question How to assign a name to ip:port on localhost?

Hi,
I have a redmine server running at top of an apache2 on localhost, and it is accessible by something like this "127.0.0.1:3000". How I can assign another name, for example "redmine.xdev"? I found that it is not possible to place an entry with port number in /etc/hosts file.

Host names can be set in /etc/hosts, but not ports as you've found, so see http://httpd.apache.org/docs/current...ame-based.html ?

Maybe FQDN pointing to that ip and port if dns service allows it. Locally maybe even a wins server might work. Never looked into that either.
