Question How does m0n0wall's PPTP VPN work?

I created a PPTP virtual private network on my m0n0wall router, and then connected successfully using Windows connection wizard from a remote location.

Though I am now successfully connected, I cannot ping another host on the LAN that the VPN should be connecting me to. I want to be able to connect to the file server on this LAN, of course.

I created a firewall rule under the PPTP VPN tab in the m0n0wall web interface:
Protocol TCP, Source *, Port *, Destination *, Port *

Is there something else that I need to do? Do I need to create a bridge on the client computer?

edit: I am not a networking expert. The addresses of the hosts on the remote LAN are like 192.168.1.x and the address of the hosts on the LAN under the m0n0wall router are the same, like 192.168.1.x. Is this important? Do I need to change the subnet of one of the LANs?

I set up the subnets on the connecting network and on m0n0wall's LAN interface so that they are different, and the problem was solved.
