Question how do u find AS Number of an IP address?


hi guys,

could someone help me out in how to find the AS(Autonomous System) Number of a given IP address?

I was thinking you could do it with the whois utility, but i'm not sure how...

I want to query an ip address and I want its AS number returned, how can i accomplish this? Please help, thanks alot

I very much doubt you would get this info from reverse DNS lookups, you would probably need to go to a core internet router and look at the BGP path info. Otherwise the internic or whatever its called now may have info on who has what address ranges and also what their repective AS numbers are.

Why would you want to do this anyway?

yeah the iternic or whatever has who has what address ranges and also it has their AS numbers but when you search for an ip address it doesn't tell u its AS number, u can query an AS number, domain, or ip address, i was wondering if there was an option that u could include that returned the AS number when you queried the Ip address

has anyone done this before?

whois -h whois.radb.net <IP ADDRESS>
