How do I aboid web leaching?

Hi,

Okay, maybe I did'nt use the right word (for lack of...) but the case is simple...I just looked up some stats of my site and found that my pictyures are ... elsewhere. Some russian (go figure) site "offers" my logo as clipart. How do I avoid that? Thanks in advance.

Thor

Hi Sowpine,

Well, THAT is not so much the problem. My logo ended up somewhere else, offered as a download. Of course, the download does'nt come from their drives, but all they do is supply a link to my site where someone downloads from my site. How do I avoid that? I read somewhere that is can be done, but as I was not yet confronted with this problem, I "glossed" over the text...

Could it involve .htaccess ? I dont fully remember...

Thor

Possibly solved:
I need to add/edit the .htaccess file to avoid hotlinking (yep, I knew there was a word for it besides stealing, theft, russian hijack, and whatever else )
Testing it now, it looks promissing, but, I'd like to make sure!
Thanks for the encouraging "being around" guys - _big hug for all_

In the past however I have used a built-in feature of cPanel to protect against that kind of hotlinking. It is probably just a front-end for mod_rewrite but I am no expert.

...hmm, my hosting company does'nt seem to have that as option. I tested the htaccess and so far, hotlinks seem to be impossible...
I sent a mail to the provider, maybe some extra input can be gotten...until then, however, seen the results...I should mark this as solved...
