There are two different things, UMTS and MPTCP. MPTCP is protocol and UMTS is physical channel. Let's separate them.
1)Does UMTS channel work? If not, using ping to debug the channel.
2)Does your distribution provide MPTCP installation package? What's your distribution?

In general, ns2 is network simulator. The traffic never go to real interface, just moving in memory.
