how can i broadcast files on linux

OK i was trying to find a file sharing protocol which IP broadcasts data to it's clients. It's more research related but, i'm looking for a method to broadcast data when installing lots of linux systems.

At present the only method i can think of, or find. is to manually build a n array binary tree and retransmit data down the tree, commonly called peer broadcasting.

and is there a tool which can do this for local aria networks, ie not internet based file sharing.

thanks for any responses
