hostname


Anyone know how I can change the hostname? do I just edit /etc/HOSTNAME or is there any other files I have to edit.

BTW it's for SUSE 8.1

man hostname.

i think the option was -s for setting it.

You need to change one line in the rc.sysint file in the /etc/directory. I think it is line 30. It says "HOSTNAME=localhost" or may be localdomain change to "HOSTNAME=yourname". When you reboot it will set that first thing.

I'm in gentoo at the moment, if the file don't look right post back and I'll double check to make sure.

I can't check at the moment, I'm compiling stuff.

Your welcome. Not to bad to be from memory.

I was updateing the OS in Gentoo and it was in the process of compiling a upgrade package. I couldn't reboot into Mandrake at the time.
