Hidden Firestarter script

Hello to all,

Firestarter (the Iptables config prog) had been installed by Me on my Linux box pre learnign to use Iptables directy.

But Firestarter seems to have embeded a call to it's /etc/firestarter/firewall.sh script somewhere seemingly reated to dhcp because a call gets amde to the script rigth after "determing ip information" does anyone know where that call si being made from?

Thank you

I don't know off hand but I would guess somewhere in:
/etc/rc.d

so try this to find the files:
cd /etc/rc.d
grep -r firestarter

yeah there's a bunch of stuff in /etc/init.d/ and /etc/rc.d/ that firestarter puts in. Good luck!

locate firestarter

Hello to all. I got my question answered by a Firestarter developer. I'll quote his email below. Thanks for the assistance.

Quote:
It depends on the dhcp client you are using.

If you are using dhclient (for example Red Hat 8/9, Mandrake 9) it is attached to the file /etc/dhclient-exit-hooks.

If you are using dhcpcd (older distributions) firewall.sh is attached to /etc/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-<name of your external interface>.exe

You can see which dhcp system you are using by running "ps aux|grep dhc".

The attaching is done by the firewall Wizard in Firestarter. Note that if you deselect the option "IP Address is assigned via DHCP" in the Wizard the attachment will be removed when you complete the wizard. Uninstalling the RPM also removes the dhcp hook.

Regards,
Tomas
