Help with PPP on Red Hat 7.1
Hi All,
Forgive me if this post is redundant, but I've been working on this one for awhile. I have a Dell Precision 410 with dual 700MHz PIII (so I'm running 2.4.2-2 smp version of the kernel) running RH 7.1. I have an existing internet account with Prodigy (yeah-yeah, I know. Go get a real ISP.) I know folks have connected with linux to Prodigy before, but I can't seem to do it. ppp usually fails on startup during LCP negotiation. BTW, I have a Lucent LT Winmodem (yeah-yeah, I know. Get a real modem.), but the modem seems to be working fine. I downloaded the source to a driver and it dials in and negotiates ok. I'm also using the built-in NIC for my home network. Any configuration help would be extremely appreciated.
Thanks,
tims

what kind of error do you get? most common errors occur when you don't have the correct settings for either chap or pap connection with the ISP, or sometimes when your entering your username, you need the full username... like with the ending @domain.com email addresss you have to authenticate...
let us know!!!

Here's a snippet from the stderr output from pppd when I try to connect:

Aug 28 01:16:26 brc01 pppd[1222]: Connection terminated.
Aug 28 01:16:26 brc01 pppd[1222]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
Aug 28 01:16:27 brc01 pppd[1222]: Exit.
Basically, once it gets the LCP timeout the connection is terminated and I get hung up on. I have a feeling it has to do with IPX and Appletalk being enable on the PPP0 interface, but I don't know how or why its doing that. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
tims
